Good endings and scary beginnings-life update
So long farewell…
After working in retail for 7 years, I’m finally leaving my retail job. It was all fantastic timing, to say the least. My lease ends at the end of the month, and it was just time to move on. I graduated and have my degree in Journalism, so there nothing that can really hold me back from going after what I want in my career field.
Since COVID, it has been mentally draining for me to work in retail. My job is in Orange County, where a significant portion of the population does not believe in COVID and refuses to comply with social distancing rules.
My biggest goal in life is to help people through reporting. Working a retail job and helping customers who don’t believe in COVID-19 certainly is not the way I want to help people. If I’m going to be working through a pandemic, I will do it by helping people.
Although this job has been stressful over the past few months, the position and company have given me a lot to learn. Personally, I went into this job, not knowing anything. I didn't golf, didn't know retail, and basically had to learn everything on the go. It made me adaptable, and it made me learn how to deal and confront difficult situations. I think this is something every employee needs to master, and you can use it in future jobs.
The departure is bittersweet. This job was like my daily routine, but time to break that routine and move forward. I'm really happy with everything the job's taught me and I'll miss all the friends I made along the way. However, I'm excited to start something new and I'm mostly excited to start my journey with Kevin, Joe, and Dinah.
