1 year vegetarian
It’s been officially one year since I started/announced I became a vegetarian. This is perhaps one of the happiest and best decisions I’ve done in my life. Growing up, I’ve loved animals and wanted to be vegetarian; however, I never had the freedom to express the lifestyle I wanted to live. My parents didn’t know what vegetarianism was and thought it was pointless. It’s not their fault though, thankfully many of the foods we ate were already vegetarian: beans, rice, tortillas, and more. It's still kind of them to accept my current lifestyle and keep in mind that I don't eat meat.
Saying no to meat wasn’t a big problem for me. Adjusting was perhaps the hard part. I work out a lot, well pre-COVID, and a lot of my protein came from chicken. Chicken was just easy to cook and easy to meal prep. Thanks to tofu, morning star farms, and Pinterest, I've been able to find so many different vegetarian alternatives. I also started taking vitamin supplements! I'm still bad at remembering to take it all the time, but I still take them! Definitely had to do some research before diving straight into it.
I try to practice a cruelty-free lifestyle, like using cruelty-free beauty and vegetarianism. However, I think it's important to talk about how vegetarianism isn't always cruelty-free. Many of the things vegetarians and vegans eat are products that come from underpaid field workers that work in harsh conditions and are often discriminated against. I think it's crucial to keep that in mind, and if you really wanted to be cruelty-free and plant-based, remember the field workers. Fight for them, remember them, and thank them. I’ve included a go fund me for field worker safety here.
Wanted share a little today, and hope this inspires you to rethink where your food comes from! Stay safe and blessed be!
